The Heart Truth Fashion Show

The Heart Truth fashion show yesterday brought with it quite the media circus for such an early show. Various Toronto "celebrities" were spread across the front lines to catch sight of some Canadian darlings sporting designer dresses in support of the Canadian Heart and Stroke foundation. I spy Rick Campanelli, Lainey Gossip and some others who are papp fodder - I didn't recognize their faces, but someone thinks they are important. Mr. Intercom himself relays a message that former Governor General Adrienne Clarkson is in the house but I couldn't spot her. Oh well.
On a much more enthusiastic note, The Heart Truth show has become a recurring event at Toronto Fashion Week - Canadian designers team with a celebrity to design the perfect red dress.

I think it's such a great idea to merge fashion with an importance cause - The Heart and Stroke Foundation saves lives everyday through its fundraising and charitable events and fashion is a great outlet to get the message out in a really tangible way. See? Fashion doesn't have to be shallow - some people have values and it showed, as 70% (at the very least) of the seats were filled, a vast improvement in attendance because throughout the week, you couldn't pay someone to be a seat filler.

Celebs showed their support by putting on a great show - everyone applauded first-time model Linda Cullen as she commented, "look at that up there (on the screen), that's my butt." Other highlights include: Tracy Moore hamming it up to Black Eyed Peas' "My Humps" and a standing O for olympic bronze medalist Joannie Rochette.
The typical front row sneers turned into shiny, happy faces with hands clapping in unison as the celebrities danced down the runway.

With so many options to choose from, I have selected Farley Chatto's design as the show-stopper. The dress showcased Anne-Marie's Scottish and Sri Lankan heritage, a cross-cultural fusion that inspired the use of rich tartan and sophisticated beaded lace atop a voluminous tulle skirt. The design's youthful energy and Anne-Marie's flirty swagger set off a positive energy that swept the room at the Allstream Centre.
